A celebration of seafood and cuisine

Whitianga Oceans Festival 2022 Cancelled

It is with great disappointment that we, Whitianga Oceans Festival Committee, have made the difficult decision that the Whitianga Oceans Festival will not go ahead in September 2022 as was planned. The much anticipated 2021 Festival was cancelled just 2 weeks out due to Covid-19 lockdowns.

We had hoped that 2022 would be easier to navigate from an event perspective, but the variant Omicron poses additional risks to the festival as the Government can change traffic light levels with just 24-48 hours’ notice. We are unable to deliver the event at the red setting which only allows for groups of 100.

Everything You Desire In One Place

The new Whitianga Oceans Festival, brought to you by Whitianga Scallop Festival Inc., will deliver yet another fabulous day centred around seafood, music, beverages and entertainment. The festival will celebrate both the regions, and New Zealand caught seafood as well as our marine heritage as we allow our scallop beds to rest and recover.

This is our sixteenth Festival and will continue to be one of New Zealand’s iconic seafood/kaimoana celebrations.

Join us on Saturday 18 September and enjoy savouring a variety of seafood cooked in a myriad of different ways by renowned chefs, food trucks and local community groups.

The seafood is complemented with an array of local and New Zealand beverages, and you’ll be entertained by live bands, buskers, seafood cooking classes and more.

Come and make a long weekend of it in Whitianga.
